On behalf of the Members of Council and the City of Markham, I extend our heartfelt appreciation to Full Cup Promotions and the Toronto Hong Kong Lions Club for organizing the Toronto Music Marathon, a meaningful fundraising event held in support of the firefighter who tragically lost his life during the devastating fire at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong last week.

The proceeds from this event will go to the firefighter’s family and other medical charities in Hong Kong, providing much-needed assistance and comfort to those affected by this tragedy. We commend both organizations, as well as all participants, performers, and supporters, for coming together with compassion and generosity in a time of profound loss.

Our community continues to show that we are strongest when we stand united. The kindness and empathy demonstrated through this event reflect the very best of our shared values—care, solidarity, and the willingness to help those in need, near or far.

Thank you to everyone involved for your efforts and for reminding us of the power of community during difficult times.

Our community has been deeply shaken by the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong,an incident that has caused tremendous loss and heartbreak for the residents affected. Most distressingis the passing of a dedicated firefighter who gave his life in service to others. At a time of such sorrow,it is encouraging to see local organizations and volunteers in the Greater Toronto Area coming togetherso quickly to extend help and comfort to those in need.

The “Toronto Music Marathon” exemplifies the compassion and solidarity that define our multiculturalcommunity. I commend the organizers for their commitment to a 100% donation policy, ensuring thatevery dollar raised will go directly—through the Toronto Hong Kong Lions Club Foundation—to thefallen firefighter’s family and to designated medical charities in Hong Kong. This transparent and

heartfelt effort will provide meaningful support where it is most needed.

I applaud everyone involved in making this event possible on such short notice, including performers,volunteers, donors, and community partners. Your collective goodwill reflects the best of our city and demonstrates the powerful impact we can have when we unite for a common cause.
